“… Always carry a light bulb.”

Regarding the recent post, Bob Dylan saying “always carry a light bulb”, he demands incandescent lighting in dressing rooms, as per the contract pictured here: http://www.songfacts.com/facts-bob_dylan.php

“Back in 1965, when a British reporter asked him what his message was, Bob Dylan replied, “Keep a good head and always carry a light bulb.” His famous quote appears in Don’t Look Back, the documentary that covers Bob Dylan’s 1965 concert tour of the United Kingdom. No wonder then that his explicit demand on his concert rider was to have dressing rooms lit with incandescent lighting.

When a reporter once asked him, “What’s your real message,” Bob Dylan famously responded, “Keep a good head and always carry a light bulb.” We’re not sure about his head, but Dylan’s illumination focus remains sharp.

The possible Australian tour is now in grave doubt.

This follows an announcement by the Australian Government that it is going to ban energy-inefficient incandescent light bulbs (this is true) as part of Australia’s efforts to combat global warming.

Bob Dylan is on record as requiring incandescent light bulbs in hotel rooms, backstage and so forth. I’m with him on that point – I can’t stand the light from fluorescent lights and much prefer that from incandescent bulbs.

Still, Mr Dylan could heed the advice he once offered: “Always carry a light bulb” in order to overcome this new problem in Australia.
